From April 2012 the qualifying service for unfair dismissal claims will rise from 1 to 2 years.
The Government’s aim behind this change is to encourage businesses to recruit more readily and give more time for employers to deal with any issues with staff more effectively.
Employers need to review existing procedures around disciplinary and dismissal to ensure they are maximising this change and to avoid exposing themselves unnecessarily to breach of contract claims.

The new £1bn youth employment package initiative will offer subsidies of £2,275 to employers who take on workers aged between 18 and 24 years for six months. It will begin in April 2012. We can assist with the recruitment of young people via this initiative.
